CPAP Treatment For Sleep Apnea
The most common indication for CPAP treatment is a condition known as sleep apnea (SA). SA is a sleep disorder in which sufferers stop breathing, sometimes as often as 100 times in an hour. It occurs when the soft tissues surrounding the airway at the level of the throat relax and collapse, thereby preventing the inward flow of oxygen and the outward flow of carbon dioxide. Untreated, it can cause sleepiness, loss of concentration and memory and it may contribute to road traffic accidents. Ultimately, it can cause high blood pressure, diabetes or death.
