To Russia with love – the return of Imperial Stout
In June 2011, a 60-foot yacht called the Thermopylae Clipper docked in St Petersburg, Russia, at the end of a five week journey from London. Onboard the boat were brewers, beer historians, and beer lovers from all over the UK, and below decks was a cargo of a certain British-brewed dark ale. This beer’s arrival was significant because it signalled the first shipment of Imperial Russian Stout from Britain in over 100 years.
